What is MEID? How to find it?

In the world of mobile phones, there are several unique identifiers that play a crucial role in identifying and distinguishing devices. One such identifier is the Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID). In this article, we will explore what MEID is, its significance, and how to find it on your mobile phone.

What is MEID?

The MEID is a globally unique identifier assigned to mobile devices, similar to the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. It was introduced as a replacement for the previously used Electronic Serial Number (ESN) system. MEID is a 56-bit number that consists of an 8-bit regional code followed by a 48-bit manufacturer-assigned serial number.

Significance of MEID

The MEID serves multiple purposes in the functioning of a mobile phone. Firstly, it provides a unique identification for each device, allowing network providers and regulatory authorities to track and monitor mobile devices. This identification is crucial in cases of stolen or lost phones, as it enables authorities to blacklist the device and prevent its use on any network.

Furthermore, the MEID is used for network activation and authentication. When a mobile phone is activated on a network, the MEID is registered in the network's database, allowing it to communicate with the network infrastructure. This ensures that only authorized devices can access the network and helps prevent fraudulent activities.

How to Find MEID on Your Phone

Finding the MEID on your mobile phone is a relatively simple process. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Android Devices: Go to the "Settings" menu on your Android device. Scroll down and tap on "About Phone" or "About Device." Look for the "Status" or "Phone Information" option and tap on it. You should be able to find the MEID listed under the "IMEI" or "MEID" category.
  2. iPhone: Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone. Tap on "General," then select "About." Scroll down to find the "IMEI" or "MEID" option. Tapping on it will reveal the MEID.
  3. Other Devices: The process may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer and operating system of your mobile device.
